How to: Create a Mail Caddy from a Cereal Box

Who wants to learn how to make a cute mail organizer for their house?

Oh, wait...did I mention that its super inexpensive to make!?

Well I made one for my kitchen, actually I made TWO!!

Here is what you need:
  • 1 cereal box
  • Pair of scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • ruler
  • marker
  • Cute fabric big enough to wrap the cereal box/or scrap book paper
First of all, get your cereal box.

Now, using your ruler measuring on the front of the box from the bottom, measure 5 inches and draw a line horizontal across the box.

Then, you do a horizontal line across the back of the box at 7inches high.

Now you do the sides. Use your rule to make a line for the 7 inch line on the back to the 5inch line on the front.

Now cut the top of the box off....yep, super easy...i know.

This is what it should look like!!!

WAIT!! We are not done yet!
Now get your pretty fabric (or you can use scrap book paper)
I chose a coordinating fabric to go with my kitchen.

Then hot glue it on your box. Make sure you only put hot glue on the edges of the box. You don't want hot glue bumps showing up under your fabric.

The finished product.

Now to hang it up. I used command strips, but you can also nail it into the wall.

And there it is! My very own mail caddy.

I already had all of these supplies on hand so this cost me nothing to make!

Now I have a place for all the mail and coupon inserts that I stick in, what I like to call...THE MONICA DRAW
If you have seen FRIENDS, than you know what I am talking about. Except instead of a drawer, she had a closet.

Or for those of you who just throw your mail on your kitchen counter.

Oh, how I love the pretty colors of my fabric. And don't these mail caddies just look so beautiful on my orange walls!

Alright, now get to work on yours!! :)

  1. I think I would spray-paint the boxes first so the print of the box didn't show through the fabric. This is a wonderful idea though.
